Our first post-retirement trip took us to Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks. With us on the trip was a new wide-angle lens, a retirement gift to myself, which I used for most of the pictures I took in the parks. On the trip, I kept thinking about the Ken Burns documentary on America's national parks. He called it "America's Best Idea," and he was right. Think about it. The idea of a federal government setting aside huge tracts of land filled with natural wonders so that everyone could enjoy them in perpetuity was radical and had never been done before. How lucky we are to have had such men and women of vision come before us. And we must accept our obligation to preserve and protect these parks so that future generations will have the same chances to enjoy them as we've had.
